Heart of Lions coach Bashir Hayford has spoken about his actions during his team’s clash with Bechem United in the Ghana Premier League where the veteran coach sent a chair to sit in the middle of the pitch.

In the crucial encounter, the former Kotoko boss seemed to be unhappy with a number of things including fan misconduct which triggered him to interrupt play until calm was restored.

“The fans were hurling urine and insulting me and the players. We had to defend ourselves so we ran to the pitch but to be honest, I really replied them. In my 30-year fan of the game, I had never seen anything like this before. It was more like a war and not a football match,” Hayford explained as quoted by Akoma Sports.

Despite the interruption, the experienced coach eventually left the field, allowing the game to resume. Despite being reduced to 10 men, Bechem United managed to avoid defeat at home.

While Bechem United sit sixth on the table with 40 points Heart of Lions are languishing in the 17th position only above Real Tamale United.

After 28 games, the promoted side have accumulated 29 points and are the team with the least number of victories (6).

They will be hosting fourth-placed Nsoatreman FC in their next game as they aim to regain form and fight for survival.
