I will speak up when you question my commitment to Man United - Rashdford

Manchester United forward, Marcus Rashford

Representatives of Marcus Rashford met with Barcelona executives in Lisbon on Tuesday, ahead of the club’s Champions League clash with Benfica.

The England forward has identified Barcelona as his preferred destination if he leaves Manchester United during the current transfer window.

Barcelona, however, must address salary cap constraints before pursuing Rashford. The potential departures of Ansu Fati and Eric Garcia could free up the necessary financial space.

Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, acknowledged the club’s challenges, stating: “We are dealing with the issue of [financial] fair play. In the final days, if the team can be strengthened, we will try, but as of today, there is nothing. The priority is the renewals of the important players in the squad, and then we could focus on one or two reinforcements.”

While Borussia Dortmund has made inquiries about a potential loan deal for Rashford, Barcelona has yet to make a formal move. AC Milan, previously linked with the forward, shifted their focus to signing Manchester City captain Kyle Walker last week.

Barcelona’s coach, Hans-Dieter Flick, reportedly remains satisfied with the current squad, leaving the possibility of new signings open but uncertain.
