Former Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan has lavished praise upon Black Satellites’ young sensation, Jerry Afriyie, tipping him for a bright future in the sport.

Afriyie, a forward for Thought FC, emerged as a standout performer during the 2023 African Games, where his stellar contributions helped propel Ghana’s U-20 team to victory. His crowning moment came with a decisive goal in the final against Uganda, securing the coveted gold medal for his team.

Gyan, who himself has enjoyed a decorated career with the Black Stars was effusive in his praise for Afriyie’s talents.

Gyan highlighted the youngster’s technical prowess, work ethic, and impressive ball-striking ability.

“Jerry Afriyie is a very good player,” he told Asempa FM. “Technically, he is good and he is a workaholic too. Despite a bit of inexperience in his movement off the ball, he is still very good.”

The 17-year-old’s remarkable performance has not gone unnoticed, with Gyan emphasising that with proper guidance and training, Afriyie has the potential to reach great heights in his career.

“His ball-striking ability is good as well. There’s no wonder he scored three goals in the tournament. He’s good technically. With good training and advice, he will go far,” Gyan asserted.

As Afriyie looks to build upon his breakthrough showing at the African Games, the endorsement from Ghana’s all-time leading goal scorer serves as a significant boost.

Eyes will now be on the promising young talent as he continues his journey towards fulfilling his immense potential on the footballing stage.
