Alfred Duncan departs Fiorentina after four years

Italian club Fiorentina bid farewell to Alfred Duncan as his four-year tenure with the team comes to an end.

The 31-year-old Ghanaian midfielder’s contract expired this week, making him available as a free agent for the upcoming summer transfer window.

Duncan leaves Fiorentina holding the record for the most Serie A appearances by a Ghanaian international, totaling 304 matches. He joined the club in August 2022 and has since been a consistent presence in their midfield lineup.

Fiorentina and Duncan have mutually agreed to part ways following the conclusion of his contract. The midfielder now sets his sights on securing a new club for the next phase of his career.

During his time with Fiorentina, Duncan made 126 appearances across various competitions, scoring six goals and providing valuable contributions to the team’s campaigns.

In the recently concluded season, he played a pivotal role with two goals and five assists in 41 matches, notably aiding Fiorentina’s journey to the UEFA Europa Conference League finals, where they narrowly lost to Olympiacos.

With an extensive career in Italy, Duncan has played for Inter Milan’s youth team, Livorno, Sampdoria, Sassuolo, and Cagliari, showcasing his versatility and experience in midfield, which have earned him respect in Italian football circles.

Internationally, Duncan represented Ghana, earning 10 caps for the Black Stars since his debut in November 2012.

As Duncan explores opportunities for the next chapter of his career, clubs across Europe are expected to monitor his availability, recognising his wealth of experience and skill in midfield.
