Ghana bounced back from their opening draw in the African Games men’s football tournament with a convincing 3-1 win over Gambia on Tuesday night at the Accra Sports Stadium.

This victory has revived their hopes of reaching the semifinals.

In their first game against Congo, Ghana dominated play but failed to convert several scoring opportunities. However, they were much more clinical against Gambia, converting three of their many chances.

With this win, Ghana now lead Group A with four points, while Congo and Benin have two points each after drawing their match. Gambia remain at the bottom with only one point.

While the group is still wide open, Ghana look to be gaining momentum and will be confident of qualifying for the next round.

Coach Desmond Ofei’s team put in an impressive performance, taking the lead just 12 minutes into the game through Musibau Aziz’s goal.

They continued to dominate and scored twice more in the second half, with Abdul Aziz Issah doubling their lead four minutes after halftime and Jerry Afriyie sealing the victory with a stoppage-time goal.

Gambia did manage to score a consolation goal through Ebrimah Ceesay in the 83rd minute, but it was too little, too late. Despite missing a penalty in the 75th minute, Ghana remained in control throughout the match.
