In a stunning display of dominance, Angola secured a coveted spot in the quarter-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) by defeating Namibia in the round of 16.

The game was marked by several noteworthy events, including a red card for Neblu in the 17th minute following a handball and an ugly tackle.

Despite being reduced to 10 men, Angola took the lead in the 38th minute when Fredy delivered a precise pass to Gelson Dala, who calmly tapped the ball into an empty net, making it 1-0.

Namibia faced further challenges when Lubeni Haukongo received a second yellow card in the 40th minute, resulting in his expulsion from the match. Angola capitalised on the numerical parity to increase the advantage thanks to Gelson Dala scoring again in the 42nd minute, heading the ball into the top left corner from the edge of the six-yard box, extending the lead to 2-0.

The momentum continued in the 66th minute when Mabululu unleashed a spectacular shot from the edge of the box, finding the bottom right corner and securing a 3-0 lead.

Despite a valiant effort from Namibia’s Peter Shalulile, whose header narrowly missed the target, Angola maintained control. Zito Luvumbo even came close to adding another goal in the stoppage time hitting the crossbar with a powerful strike.

With this commanding victory, Angola advances to the quarter-finals and eagerly awaits the outcome of the match between Nigeria and Cameroon for their next challenge.

The team’s performance showcased resilience, skill, and an unwavering determination to succeed in the tournament.
