Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku says the Black Stars have taking cues from their dismal 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers to help shape the team’s 2026 World Cup qualifying ambitions.
Ghana finished bottom of their World Cup qualifying group with no wins and three draws, marking the first time the team finished the qualifiers winless.
The lull performances of the team resulted in Ghana’s absence at the AFCON – a first since 2004.
Ghana, who garnered a mere two wins in 2024 and are winless in their last nine months, prepare for their 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.
The World Cup qualifiers have proven to be a good hunting ground for the team, who have picked up nine points from their first four games and lie second – on course to qualify for the global showpiece for a fifth time.
Speaking to freelance journalist Alexis Laura Ehiagwina in an exclusive interview for 3Sports, GFA president Kurt Okraku said.
“I think hard lessons have been learnt by everybody, me inclusive. I hope that the players, technical team and everybody within the space will definitely not be happy and that will be a motivation for all of us as far as our responsibilities to the nation is concerned.”
Ghana take on Chad in Accra on March 21 before facing Madagascar three days after.
