Kotoko drop points as leaders Heart of Lions humbled in Bechem

Matchday 16 delivered a brilliant spectacle across the various match centers as Asante Kotoko dropped points in Tarkwa against Medeama, while league leaders Heart of Lions were beaten comprehensively by Bechem United.

Hearts of Oak got the weekend up and running with a slender 1-0 win over Legon Cities at the University of Ghana Stadium on Friday, thanks to Ahmed Ramzy’s strike on the stroke of half-time. The win moved Hearts to 28 points, two behind leaders Heart of Lions.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Hearts of Oak’s arch rivals Asante Kotoko were hoping to close the gap on leaders Heart of Lions.

However, Kotoko were pegged back in Tarkwa after shooting ahead in the first half courtesy a Kwame Poku finish. The game ended 1-1, leaving Kotoko locked on 28 points with Hearts of Oak.

On the other hand, league leaders Heart of Lions were dispatched in Bechem as they succumbed to a 3-0 defeat, failing to extend their advantage at the league summit.

Joint-table toppers, Bibiani GoldStars, put Berekum Chelsea to the sword to continue their side-by-side title chase with Heart of Lions; both sides are locked on 30 points

Nations FC also ensured they stayed within touching distance of the league as they thumped Basake Holy Stars 3-1 at the Nsenkyire Sports Complex.

Elsewhere, defending champions Samartex bounced back to winning ways in Dormaa, beating Aduana 1-0. After a five-game winless run, Samartex recorded their first league win since November 2024.

At the Tuba Astro turf, relegation threatened Dreams FC moved two points clear of the drop zone after defeating further strugglers Accra Lions 1-0.

Two of the three newly promoted sides, Vision Fc and Young Apostles, won their respective games against Nsoatreman and Karela as they strive to maintain their Ghana Premier League status.
