Ghana’s Duke ‘The Baby Face’ Micah lost in the third round in his title fight against John Riel Casimero.

The Filipino made a strong statement in his U.S. television debut and it caught the eye of many boxing fans worldwide.

The bantamweight titleholder stopped game, but overmatched challenger Duke Micah in the third round on the pay-per-view doubleheader Saturday.

From the off, the fighters went at it with brawn, wasting no time to give fans an entertaining bout. The opening bell meant business.

Casimero (30-4, 21 KOs) seized control of the fight with a left hook that put Micah (24-1, 19 KOs) down about a minute into Round 2.

Micah, who was hurt badly after that, showed tremendous courage to survive the rest of the round — and actually fought back with intense ferocity until the end of the round.

Casimero knew the end was near and continued to pound the challenger where he hurt him a round before.

Casimero finally landed a left uppercut followed by a right uppercut that prompted the referee to stop the fight.
The official time was 54 seconds into Round 3.

Casimero hadn’t fought for since last November, when he stopped Zolani Tete to win his title. The Filipino now has six consecutive knockouts and called out Naoya Inoue to come out and challenge him.

For Duke Micah, the loss means he has now gone so many rungs down the title challenging ladder and only a few more wins could get him there again. Tough.
