Commonwealth Games: Boxer Joseph Commey unfit for gold bout, settles for silver

Ghana’s featherweight boxer, Joseph Commey, has been declared medically unfit to fight in the 2022 Commonwealth Games final and as such, will take home the silver medal.

Commey had an incredible run to the final, recording two consecutive victories before beating New Zealand’s Alex Maduka in the quarterfinals and India’s Muhammad Husammudin in the semis.

The 18-year-old was set to go head-to-head with Jude Gallagher at the final but the Chef de Mission for Team Ghana at the games, Frederick Acheampong, confirmed Commey’s medical problem on Twitter.

Ghana’s hopes for a gold medal fall on Abraham Mensah who will fight against Dylan James Eagleson on Sunday afternoon.
