Chelsea’s new boss Graham Potter worked with Ghana in 2007

Chelsea have confirmed Graham Potter as the replacement for Thomas Tuchel, who was fired earlier this week as a result of the club’s slow start to the season despite the new owners’ heavy investment in new players.

With this appointment as Chelsea’s new manager, Graham Potter will be ending his three-year stint with Brighton.

In the early stages of his coaching career, Chelsea’s new manager Potter worked with Ghana.

Potter was a member of the Black Queens technical staff for the 2007 Women’s World Cup in China.

He was in charge of the team’s technical and tactical training, as well as match preparation and team selection.

Black Queens were eliminated from the tournament after the group stage, with no wins and 15 goals conceded.

Potter discussed his experience working with Ghana prior to the tournament.

“On the first night I arrived we had a blackout; I don’t think I have ever experienced darkness like it. PramPram is in the middle of nowhere an hour outside of Accra so it was a little disconcerting!,” Potter said as published by BBC.

Potter was a football development manager at Hull University at the time.

He admitted that the team needed luck to make an impact in China.

He said, “The girls have been a pleasure to work with and I only hope our hard work pays off.”

“We will need a bit of luck as we are in a competitive group with three very strong teams.”

Unfortunately, luck was not on their side, as the Black Queens lost all three games against Norway, Australia, and Canada.

Potter has since progressed and now manager of Chelsea.
