Former Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak forward Charles Taylor is calling for a longer contract to be given to new Black Stars boss, Chris Hughton.
Taylor is already a big fan of the former Brighton manager, after watching his first two games, which resulted in a 1-0 victory over Angola in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, followed by a 1-1 draw against the same opponent in Luanda.
According to Taylor, who made 16 appearances for the Black Stars during his playing days, Ghana has a knowledgeable manager who deserves to handle a long-term project that would bring about trophies.

“Chris Hughton must be given a long-term project because he is very knowledgeable. When you have good coaches like Chris, it motivates the players. When the players see him in the stands, they get motivated because they know it’s a chance for them to stake a claim for roles in the Black Stars. It will help our various national teams and the local league improve,” Taylor said on Angel TV.
“What I like most is that he is not restricting his visits to only Accra and Kumasi. We should give him the team and allow him to make all the decisions. He is doing the job and must be commended for the good work,” he added.
Ghana, four-time African champions, have not won a trophy since 1982, and failed woefully in last year’s Africa Cup of Nations before exiting in the group stage at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Hughton’s team though are close to securing qualification for their 10th consecutive Afcon, as they currently sit at the top of the qualification group with two matches remaining.
