Charles Taylor alleges Andre Ayew’s absence in Angola trip was not due to injury

Former Hearts of Oak striker, Charles Taylor has accused the Ghana Football Association (GFA) of lying about Black Stars captain, Andre Ayew’s injury ahead of the team’s trip to Angola for their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.

Ayew missed the game in Angola and was also ruled out of the rematch due to a knee injury as reported by the Ghana Football Association.

However, Taylor believes that there is something fishy about the report and that Ayew’s absence was due to anger over not being selected to play in Kumasi.

“It was okay to exclude the injured players who left the team but not entirely great because we know what they can do for the team but I’m struggling to believe the excuse for Dede that he is injured because he didn’t even play the game, so where was the injury from?,” he told Angel TV.

“The medical team confirmed it but I’m not sure he is injured. He left out of anger and the medical team covered up to save him from backlash.”

The absence of Ayew was barely felt as the Black Stars earned a point in Luanda to remain unbeaten in the qualifiers.
