Deontay Wilder has expressed a high level of confidence, stating he is “90%” certain that a bout with Anthony Joshua will materialise down the line.

Following a shocking defeat to Joseph Parker, Wilder aims to regain his form in a match against Zhilei Zhang on June 1.

The former WBC heavyweight world champion acknowledged that his unexpected defeat to Parker derailed the anticipated showdown with Anthony Joshua. Nevertheless, Wilder remains optimistic that the encounter will eventually occur.

“People are always going to want to see that fight no matter what,” Wilder told BBC Sport. “I put it in the high 90s [percentage chance of happening], he said.

The American heavyweight believes a big win will resurrect interest in the contest.

“It only takes that one fight, that one night. June 1st is going to be that night, that one fight. Deontay Wilder knocks [Zhang’s] head off and the world goes crazy, he added.

Wilder will fight Zhang as part of the five-versus-five Matchroom Promotions v Queensberry Promotions card in June in Saudi Arabia.
