Bukom Banku’s son Ambitious Tilapia declares himself the face of Ghana boxing

Accra-based boxer Abubakar Saddick, popularly known as “Ambitious Tilapia,” has boldly declared himself the new face of Ghana Boxing.

The 21-year-old, son of boxer Bukom Banku, made this statement during an exclusive interview with 3Sports.

Ghana has struggled to reclaim a major boxing title since Richard Commey lost his IBF lightweight belt to Teofimo Lopez at Madison Square Garden in 2019.

Bukom Banku, known for his flair and dominance in amateur boxing, often headlined boxing nights in his prime.

Despite having just one professional fight under his belt, Abubakar is brimming with confidence, comparing his crowd-pulling ability to that of Dancehall artist Shatta Wale.

“I am the face of Ghana Boxing. For example, many big artistes have won BET awards, but Shatta Wale hasn’t, yet he can fill a stadium. I can fill the Bukom Arena several times. I am the best,” he stated confidently.

The Accra 2023 silver medalist considers his father his greatest inspiration. “My father is my boxing idol. He won bronze in the African Games, but I won silver. It makes me proud whenever he cheers me on,” he added.

However, Abubakar missed out on a nomination for the SWAG Boxer of the Year award despite his growing profile.
