Black Meteors arrive in Accra after dismal U-23 AFCON campaign

After failing to proceed beyond the first round of the ongoing U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Ghana’s U-23 team, the Black Meteors have arrived in Accra.

The team failed to meet their target of finishing in the last three of the tournament to make it to the 2024 Olympics Games in Paris, France.

Despite starting on a good note with a 3-2 win over Congo, Ghana were walloped 5-1 by Morocco the host nation in their second match leaving them with a must-win game against Guinea to secure qualification.

However, they gave up a first-half lead to their fellow West Africans, which resulted in their elimination from the group stage.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) reported that the playing body, technical team, and officials arrived on Monday morning following their disastrous journey at the competition.

Their departure implies that their long hiatus from the Olympic Games will now be extended until at least 2028, having last competed in 2004.

The GFA added that the technical team will deliver a report of their participation for assessment by the GFA’s Executive Council.
