Turkish giants Besiktas have finally confirmed the acquisition of defender Daniel Amartey, although specific details of the contract remain undisclosed.

The club expressed their confidence in Amartey’s abilities, stating, “We wish Daniel Amartey, who we believe will render important services to our club, great success with our glorious uniform, and present it to the public with our respect.”

While the length of the contract has not been revealed, reports suggest it is a two-year deal with an option for an additional year. The agreement between Amartey and the club had been reached earlier this month, and the signing took place on Friday after he successfully passed his medical examination.

Amartey, aged 28, has joined Besiktas as a free agent following his departure from Premier League club Leicester City. His seven-year tenure with Leicester City came to an end as his contract expired on June 30, coinciding with the club’s unfortunate relegation from the Premier League.

Amartey had a great time during his time at Leicester, including winning the league title in his debut season and playing a vital role in the club’s FA Cup triumph in 2021.

After leaving Leicester, Amartey was linked with a potential move to Celtic, fueled by his previous association with Brendan Rodgers, his former coach at Leicester City who is currently managing Celtic.

With his wealth of experience and defensive abilities, Amartey is set to bolster Besiktas’ squad as they aim for success in both domestic and international competitions.

Amartey’s move to Besiktas makes him the latest Ghanaian player to make a move to Turkey, following in the footsteps of fellow compatriot Alexander Djiku, who recently joined Fenerbahce.
