Defending champions Bayern Munich suffered their first Bundesliga defeat of the season, falling 5-1 to Eintracht Frankfurt at Deutsche Bank Park.

The loss puts Bayern three points behind second-place Bayer Leverkusen, who face third-place VfB Stuttgart on Sunday.

Omar Marmoush, Eric Ebimbe, and Hugo Larsson scored for Frankfurt within the first 36 minutes, giving the hosts a commanding 3-0 lead. Joshua Kimmich pulled one back for Bayern before halftime, but Ebimbe and Ansgar Knauff added two more goals for Frankfurt in the second half.

The defeat marks Bayern’s heaviest loss since April 2019, and their worst-ever defeat to Frankfurt in the Bundesliga. England captain Harry Kane, who played the full 90 minutes, failed to score for only the third time in 13 Bundesliga games this season. He has 18 goals from 13 league matches.

Frankfurt, who had not won in their previous three league games, were inspired by their coach Adi Hütter, who celebrated his 50th birthday on Friday. The win takes them up to eighth place in the table, while Bayern remain in second place.

Bayern, who have already qualified for the Champions League last 16, play Manchester United in their final group game on Tuesday. United must win and hope Copenhagen and Galatasaray draw to progress to the last 16.
