Barcelona midfielder Gavi, 19, is set to undergo surgery for a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) sustained during international duty with Spain.

Gavi left the pitch in tears on Sunday following an awkward landing while controlling the ball, prompting concerns about his potential absence for the rest of the season and uncertainties surrounding his participation in Euro 2024 and the Paris Olympics.

Barcelona confirmed the injury, describing it as a “complete tear of the ACL,” with further updates on the recovery expected in the coming days. The typical recovery time for such an injury ranges from eight to 10 months.

Gavi, who has played 111 games for Barcelona and made 27 appearances for Spain, played a pivotal role in Barcelona’s league title and Spanish Super Cup triumph last season.

Spain boss, Luis de la Fuente, expressed the bitter nature of their recent victory over Georgia, given Gavi’s unfortunate injury just 26 minutes into the match.
