Ghanaian sprinter Abdul-Rasheed Saminu has set his sights on a new target – the 200m event at the World Athletics Championships.
With a strong performance, Saminu believes he can qualify for the prestigious event and make a name for himself on the global stage.
Having recently broken the national 100m record, Saminu is now focusing on qualifying for the 200m event at the upcoming World Athletics Championships.
The current national 100m record holder is eyeing a sub-20-second finish in the 200m event and the Ghanaian is confident that he can achieve this feat and qualify for the World Athletics Championships.
In an exclusive interview with 3Sports Bill Eshun, the national 100m record holder expressed his confident of qualifying for the 200m event through his performance at the NCAA National Championship.
“Hopefully, I will qualify in the 200m from the NCAA National Championship but I have two chances to run. I’m just looking forward to run a, even 20.00, 20.12, 20.15. I’m good to go. I just need to qualify.”
Saminu’s determination to break the 20-second barrier is evident in his training and preparation. With his impressive form in the 100m event, he believes he has the potential to deliver a strong performance in the 200m.
When asked about his potential participation in the 4x100m relay team at the World Championships, Saminu expressed his willingness to be part of the team.
“I’m going to be part of the 4*100m again [for World Championships], Inshallah. But right now, the focus is just on me right now with NCAA. Because I know there’s a lot of pressure there too.”
“Right now it’s just three events [I want to compete in]. Even there [in NCAA], I’m going to run in three events” he added.
