Paris 2024: Ghana disqualified in 4x100m relay, ending medal hopes

Ghana’s Olympic campaign in Paris 2024 faced a setback as their 4x100m relay team was disqualified in heat 2.

The quartet, consisting of Abdul Rasheed Saminu, Benjamin Azamati, Ibrahim Fuseini, and Joseph Paul Amoah, initially finished sixth with a time of 38.62 seconds but were later disqualified due to a late baton exchange.

The top three spots in the heat were secured by China, France, and Canada. China led with a time of 38.24 seconds, France followed with 38.34 seconds, and Canada finished at 38.39 seconds.

This disqualification is a repeat of a similar error at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where Ghana also missed out on a medal due to a changeover violation.

Ghana’s overall campaign in Paris 2024 ended without medals. The team’s performance was marred by earlier disappointments: swimmer Harry Stacey did not advance past the heats, Joselle Mensah failed to progress, and Rose Yeboah also did not make it to the high jump final.

Despite promising performances from Azamati and Saminu in the 100m men’s events, where they reached the semi-finals, they could not advance to the final.

Ghana’s participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games concluded with these unfortunate results, highlighting a challenging campaign for the nation.
