Newly-crowned WAFU Zone B Champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies have called on the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana National Gas Company, Dr Ben KD Asante, to present to him the trophy they won at the tournament.
The Ghana Women’s Premier League champions won the WAFU Zone B championship after beating Nigeria’s Delta Queens 1-0 in the final in Benin City.
Following their triumph in Nigeria, Ampem Darkoa also sealed a place in the CAF Women’s Championship League, becoming the second team from Ghana to achieve that feat.
The team is determined to win any trophy they compete in in Ghana, according to Kwame Effah, a management member of the club.
“We couldn’t go to Techiman without paying courtesy call and thank Ghana Gas for the massive support we received before the team departed to Nigeria for the WAFU tournament,” he said.
The management member of the club took the opportunity to appeal to Ghana Gas to assist the team in acquiring a new bus in the near future.
“We will appeal to your outfit to help us get a bus for our games, a passionate appeal from the Chief of Techiman.”
The CEO of Ghana Gas, Dr. Asante, was glad to see Ampem Darkoa Ladies on Tuesday and commended the team for winning the treble, especially the WAFU Zone B tournament in Nigeria.
“I am happy to see you. Before, I came to be the CEO of Ghana Gas, I realized apart from the Black Stars, the other sports disciplines have little funding,” he observed.
“We will continue to support you, even when the team goes to Ivory Coast for the tournament.
“Your appeal for the bus is well taken but put it in writing for it to be documented for board approval,” he advised.
“I love sports but I have heard of Ampem Darkoa for so long a time but I have never seen this team before. Consider this place your home and you’re always welcome to Ghana Gas.”
The win certifies Ampem Darkoa Ladies as Ghana’s representatives in next season CAF Women Champions League.
