Ghana defender Daniel Amartey has failed a late fitness test for the 2026 World Cup qualifier against Comoros, rendering him unavailable for the match in Moroni.

The Turkey-based player sustained a suspected hamstring injury during the game against Madagascar on Friday, leading to his early exit, and he was subsequently omitted from training in Moroni on Sunday.

Despite MRI scans not revealing any evident injury, Amartey’s clinical progress, as monitored by the Black Stars medical team, has been slower than anticipated, forcing him to miss the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifier against Comoros.

The former Leicester City player, who started the opening game in Kumasi, was replaced by Kasim Nuhu.

Amartey’s appearance in the match against Madagascar marked a comeback after missing the October games against Mexico and the USA due to injury. However, his setback ahead of the Comoros qualifier adds to the challenges for the Black Stars as they aim for World Cup qualification.

Amartey, aged 28, made his Ghana debut in 2015 and has since accumulated over 50 international appearances.
