All football matches called off

Despite releasing names of referees for this weekend’s FA Cup matches, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has backtracked, calling off all those matches – both men and women. The postponement of all the matches is indefinite, according to Ghanafa.org. Government had taken immediate steps to dissolve the FA, following an exposé by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas. But the FA appeared to have defied the order and released the list of match officials for the Round of 32 games in the MTN FA Cup and the Round of 16 games in the Sanford Women’s FA Cup. https://twitter.com/Benjami48367106/status/1005111518508322816 But moments after the Association’s President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, who is the main character in the exposé, resigned, the GFA called off all matches. “This is as a result of a directive from the government of Ghana,” it said. “In effect, the MTN FA Cup Round of 32 matches and the Sanford Women’s FA Cup Round of 16 games will not come off as scheduled.” Already, government is instituting measures to see to the governing of football while FIFA – which earlier in the day banned Mr Nyantakyi for 90 days – is also investigating the issue. Match commissioners, referees, administrators and key officials were captured in the secret filming, screened publicly on Wednesday and Thursday.
