President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has ordered the Ministry of Finance to pay an amount of $45,000 to Ghana’s first ever boxing world champion, David Kotei also known as D.K Poison.

This resolution is as a result of a petition the former boxer and his lawyers sent to the Jubilee House concerning the money he supposedly loaned to the state back in 1976.

Poison was asked by the then military government to loan money accrued from the fight to the state.

This was after his second title defence against Japanese Shigefumi Fukuyama.

His numerous efforts to get his money back from successive governments had all proved futile.

There’s respite now though as a letter signed by the Executive Secretary to the President, Nana Asante Bediatuo, has asked the finance Ministry to ensure that the money is paid to the 69-year-old legend.
