The president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kurt Okraku is set to go unopposed in the 2023 GFA Elections following the revelation of the official list of candidates by the Elections Committee of the association.

In a list released on Tuesday, September 19, only one presidential candidate, Kurt Okraku was stated to have passed the vetting process and was therefore eligible to contest.

This follows the appeals committee’s decision to reject the appeal of George Afriyie, who was determined to contest the incumbent in the elections.

The former vice president was initially disqualified by the Elections Committee citing his inability to meet necessary requirements to contest the high office.

Afriyie’s further attempt to appeal in a bid to see his decision overturned was unfruitful as well and reports have already suggested his decision to take the matter to a higher tribunal the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).

This means the 2023 Elections may proceed with Kurt Okraku as the sole candidate contesting.

Okraku won the 2019 Elections and has since then been in office for the past four years with his first term set to conclude in October.

However, the Elective Congress which was initially scheduled to come off on September 27 will take place on October 5 despite an earlier announcement indicating the suspension of the election timetable.
