In a world where barriers often obscure opportunities for those with disabilities, one young man in Ghana is breaking stereotypes and inspiring others with his exceptional talent.

Despite grappling with cerebral palsy, 26-year-old Joshua Tettey is making waves in the field of graphic design, showcasing his remarkable proficiency from his home office.

As reported by TV3’s Grace Hamoah Agyemang, Joshua’s journey is a testament to his unwavering determination and resilience. Despite the challenges posed by his condition, he refuses to let it define him.

“I can do a lot of things. A flyer, a banner, a poster, a booklet, and almost everything,” he proudly declares, highlighting his passion for his craft and his refusal to succumb to limitations.

However, Joshua’s path hasn’t been without obstacles. Despite his advanced skills, he continues to face discrimination in his quest for employment.

“To be frank with you, it is not easy for me to get a job. I think because of my disability, people don’t want to give me a job,” he shares, shedding light on the harsh realities individuals with disabilities often encounter in the job market.

Cerebral palsy, a condition characterized by movement and posture disorders resulting from brain damage, affects thousands of children in Ghana, with staggering statistics revealing significant challenges in healthcare and support services.

Joshua’s mother, Vida Oboshie Togbor, has been instrumental in nurturing his independence and advocating for his rights.

“Anyone who has a child like Joshua shouldn’t be ashamed of them. They are special and they deserve to be treated as such,” she emphasizes, urging parents of children with special needs to embrace their strengths and provide unwavering support.

Despite the uphill battle, Joshua remains undeterred in his mission to make a difference. He plans to establish a foundation aimed at raising awareness about cerebral palsy and providing assistance to those affected by the disorder.

“I want to encourage people that not everyone with a disability is a beggar,” he asserts passionately, highlighting his determination to create opportunities and empower others like him.

Joshua’s story not only serves as a source of inspiration but also underscores the pressing need for greater inclusivity and support for individuals with disabilities. As over 85% of children with cerebral palsy in Ghana are excluded from education due to various challenges, Joshua’s resilience and perseverance serve as a beacon of hope, reminding us of the importance of embracing diversity and fostering an inclusive society.

In the face of adversity, Joshua Tettey stands as a shining example of what can be achieved with determination, talent, and unwavering support. As he continues to defy expectations and pursue his dreams, his story serves as a powerful reminder that disability does not diminish potential but rather amplifies the strength of the human spirit.
