Sokagope: Minister offers GHC10,000 for assemblyman’s killers

March 2, 2020

Marcus Mawutor Adzahli

Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Letsa has announced a GHC10,000 bounty for anyone who will volunteer useful information that would lead to the arrest of the killers of the Assemblyman for Sogakope South Electoral Area, Marcus Mawutor Adzahli

The announcement of the reward comes hours after the Youth in Sogakope in the Volta Region issued a three-day ultimatum to the police to produce the killers.

The Assembly member was killed in cold blood on Sunday after being shot multiple times in what many suspect to be contract killing.

The youth who accused the police of negligence went on rampage destroying properties and blocking the main road linking Accra to Aflao on Sunday and Monday. They also attacked the police station in the Area.

There is total breakdown of law and order within the Police service – Nii Lantey

The Regional Minister in an interview on TV3 Monday said although calm has returned to Sogakope and has been assured by the queen mother and opinion leaders that the violent protest would not repeat, a combined team of police and military are on the ground because “we don’t want to take chances”.

He condemned the behaviour of the youth, noting that the District Security Council (DISEC) could not meet the them because “they were not well behaved at all”.

They carried petrol bombs, damaged cars as they massed up menacingly, the minister recounted.

Dr. Archibald Letsa said DISEC was however able to meet with the leadership of the youth at the residence of the District Chief Executive and asked them to exercise restraint as the police work around the clock to bring the assailants to book.

“We had a meeting which was fruitful, and the agreement was that we should all exercise patience for the security agency to investigate the murder. We spoke to them to cooperate with us, we also offered a reward of GHC10,000 to anyone who will be able to provide us with credible information, leading to the arrest of the perpetrators of the crime.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Letsa said his team together with the father of the deceased, visited the wife of the slain assemblyman and the daughter who have been hospitalised after being attacked by the killers.

His team also met the family of the deceased and visited the crime scene.

Meanwhile, Marcus’ sister Selorm Adzahli recalled the brother shouting for help, “they are killing me, they are killing me” on Sunday dawn.

She said she rushed to the scene and had the assailants pointing gun at her. She was however able to outwit them, after minutes of being held hostage, and managed to run outside and called for help.

Selorm who is pregnant said even though they called the police, they arrived late after the about one-hour operation which led to the death of the brother had ended.
