Ghanaian songstress MzVee, who for two years battled with depression, has not only bounced back from the disease, but also returned from her music break with a new single that is likely to be a banger. After three successive albums in four years and the release of a hit single, the afro-pop-cum-dancehall female recording artiste uncharacteristically left the music scene, triggering speculations of pregnancy and issues with her then record label, Lynx Entertainment. It however emerged on January 6, 2020 that the Daavi hit maker was forced to abandoned music due to depression, a medical condition she said made her lash out in ways she did not understand. “It was the craziest thing,” she told Berla Mundi in an exclusive frank interview on TV in which she laid bare her depression experience and how she managed to survive it without contemplating suicide as has been the case with some victims. MzVee, who is now without a record label, indicated in that interview that she is bringing “something beautiful” having used the musical break to prepare her mind, soul and body. Consequently, she today, January 9 released Sheriff, the first of a series of singles she’s set to release in the coming days as she works to take back her place and ‘throne’ in the music industry. The 3:35-minute long dancehall track, which was released with a music video directed by Rock Davis, has within 10 hours garnered 1,600 views on YouTube. MzVee proved on the track that after all, she’s still got her dancehall mojo as she spits some great bars to the groovy rhythm. “Dem think it’s just about the pretty face but it’s really more than that,” she bragged on the track, seemingly warning her contemporaries she’s back as the ‘music sheriff’ with laced up boots “and never giving up”. The song begins with a killer opening line “Mi tell him to watch out ’cos I’m the new sheriff in town…” What’s Sheriff about? According to MzVee, the new single is all about strength. “It’s about the fact that no matter what happens with you, you can come out of it and when you come out of it just make sure you’re coming out of it right [and] you have everything you need to stand strong and to move,” she told TV3. “And this, I’m even saying it is not about my looks; it’s not about anything. I have this strength in me and I’m ready to fight. This is what this song is about,” she added. MzVee who said he has been working on a number of songs while she was on break, hopes to release two albums in 2020. Outrageous huh? “I’m trying to release two albums this year. I’m just being me,” she said, and explained that she will release the songs in singles. “I have so many songs…I’ve been recording” for years, she said MzVee released her first album titled Re-Vee-lation in 2014 and then followed it up a year later with another album, Verified. In 2017, she released her third, DaaVee and then in 2018 came out with a single, Bend Down, which featured Kuami Eugene. By Stephen Kwabena Effah|3news.com|Ghana]]>
