Farmer and Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso West-Wuogon, John Setor Dumelo has been named Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture by President Mahama.
Dumelo’s nomination was announced in an official communique from the Office of the Presidency on February 5, 2025.
Dumelo, a long-time farmer has extensive experience in agribusiness, with a successful track record as a farmer with plantations across the northern regions of Ghana.
Months after being elected as MP for the first time, the long-standing NDC politician has been nominated to serve in a sector he is passionate about.
Dumelo owns a variety of agricultural ventures, including poultry and ginger farms.
However, his nomination has been met with mixed reactions. While some Ghanaians have congratulated him for his nomination due to his hard work and commitment to the agricultural sector, others have expressed doubt about whether Dumelo has garnered enough experiences to succeed in the role.
