Janice Combs, mother of embattled rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs’ has broken her silence after her son’s arrest for alleged sex trafficking and racketeering.
In a statement shared on Sunday, October 6 by her lawyer, Natlie G. Figgers, Janice said that the 54-year-old rapper is innocent of the sexual abuse allegations and is not a “monster.”
Janice in defense of her son said “I come to you today as a mother that is devastated and profoundly saddened by the allegations made against my son, Sean Combs. It is heartbreaking to see my son judged not for the truth, but for a narrative created out of lies.”
“My son is not the monster they have painted him to be, and he deserves the chance to tell his side. I can only pray that I am alive to see him speak his truth and be vindicated,” she continued.
Janice explained that Diddy, who has been denied bail twice since his September 16 arrest isn’t “perfect” and noted that he’s “made mistakes in his past.”
“I am not here to portray my son as perfect t because he is not. He has made mistakes in the past, as we all have. My son may not have been entirely truthful about certain things such as denying he has ever gotten violent with an ex-girlfriend when the hotel’s surveillance showed otherwise.”
Shanice Combs, 84, spoke about Diddy’s assault on her ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura which has been confirmed after a CCTV hotel footage went viral.
She said that by settling the lawsuit the day after she filed it, he then opened himself up to others wanting to go after him for financial gains.
“Not being entirely straightforward about one issue does not mean my son is guilty of the repulsive allegations and the grave charges levelled against him,” she said.
Combs was arrested in mid-September following a grand jury’s indictment.
The ‘I’ll Be Missing You’ hit-maker has pleaded not guilty to the three-count indictment and has been denied bail. He has been taken to jail to await trial.
Mr Combs will reappear in court on Wednesday, 9 October, when his lawyers will argue for him to be released on bail.
