Okyeame Kwame opens up on the difficulty in reuniting with Okyeame Kofi for the famous ‘Akyeame’ group

Ghanaian musician Okyeame Kwame has opened up about the difficulty in re-uniting with Okyeame Kofi for the once sensational music group, ‘Akyeame’.

Okyeame Kwame and Okyeame Kofi teamed up back in the mid-90s to form the ‘Akyeame’ group which took hiplife to another level in and outside the boundaries of Ghana.

The group produced some hit songs like “M’asan aba”, Bra Me Tsen and others. They went ahead to be the first hiplife group to win the Ghana Music Awards in addition to other awards.

However, they split up in 2004 after producing four albums to their name.

Speaking on the Afternoon Show on TV3, Wednesday, July 3 on the possibility of coming back together, Okyeame Kwame explained that although they have jointly recorded some works recently, they have not yet dedicated much time to work on their projects.

He said they both find themselves with different purposes now and that is contributing to the difficulty in reuniting to become the once Akyeame group they were known for.

However, he noted that they do perform at shows sometimes.

“We have done some recordings; the difficult thing is putting it out but once we put it out and then what. If we put it out then we must stop whatever we are doing and chase it together and now play shows together, to do stuffs together.

“I think that we have not both not come to terms with how important it is and how fun that would be but sometimes I call Emma on stage to perform like the VGMA, I was supposed to perform M’asan aba with him but he had an emergency,” he noted.
