Ghanaian singer, SHE (voice behind the stars) has shared how she was devastated by the sad news of the death of the late Terry Bonchaka.

Born Yvonne Ohene Djan, the female singer said Terry Bonchaka spoke to her about a song collaboration two days before his fatal accident.

According to her, Terry Bonchaka had wished they both recorded their verses of the song as quickly as possible. However, she was based in Burkina Faso at the time and promised to record her verse as soon as he returned to Ghana.

She added that she never knew about the death of Terry until she was ready to record the song when she discovered the news.

The female singer said upon hearing the news, she broke down and has since been haunted by the conversation that went on between them.

“He actually got me scared because he spoke to me two days to the time he passed. He said something and he was like if you don’t come to do this particular song that time we needed to do it and said please don’t do this to me even if I am dying I will wait for you. That thing haunted me for years.

I changed my name to hide my music career from my dad – SHE ( the voice behind the stars)

“I was in Burkina Faso so I was in Paga and on my way to Accra when he called and said Terry wait, I will be in Accra in next two days. I came home and I never knew and I just asked my brother  to call Terry for the recording. It was then that my brother broke the news to me. As soon as he told me I went off,” she said on 3FM Drive.

Born Terrence Nii Okang Mensah Adjetey, Terry Bonchaka met his untimely death on Friday, October 29, 2003, after performing at the University of Ghana’s Akuafo Hall during a Hall Week Celebration.

Terry Bonchaka was involved in a fatal accident on the Legon-Madina road in Accra when his car veered off the road and collided with a tree.

He was pronounced dead after he was rushed to the 37 Military Hospital.

Recounting her collaboration with some old artistes, SHE said enjoyed working with Daseebre, Castro, Kwabena Kwabena, Mz Bel and others.

SHE also disclosed that she faked her stage name to hide her music career from her father.

According to her, she came from a strict home and had to maneuver her way to achieve her dream as a musician including hiding her identity from her dad for six years.

She noted that the name, ‘SHE’ was given to her by the late Faisal Awani of Popchain back then when she joined the music group.
