Ghanaian comedian, Abdul Waris Umaru known best as Comedian Waris has said he was left in disbelief by his first income he made from Facebook due to content generation.

Speaking in an interview on The Afternoon Show on TV3, Comedian Waris noted that he had to withdraw the money and keep it until he was utterly convinced the money belongs to him.

“I never knew I could make [huge money from Facebook]. The first time I made a huge amount from Facebook it was like a dream. I was like is this my money? I had to withdraw and hold it before I was sure that it was my money,” he said.

He urged content creators to be weary of their social media accounts as “there are people who steal accounts to monetise it and benefit from it.”

“I know someone who has close to a million followers and all the money he is making in a month, close to twenty-two thousand US dollars they do not go in his pocket and he has been to every court and not getting the account, so protect your account,” he added.

Comedian Waris further advocated for education about the social media space and how it could benefit the youth stressing that “it is one of the best things that can happen to you.”

Aside being a comedian, he is also a brand influencer for several brands but he believes that the technicalities that come along with the position make it complicated at times.

“Sometimes being an influencer is quite difficult. Coming to the understanding and all that and the things they need because companies do not understand they feel like you can flood your page with content just to publicise them for people. I will never post three content from a brand on my page in a day,” the content creator said.

According to him, his highest payment received from Facebook could be within the range of $9000.
