Former boxer, Braimah Kamoko has revealed his actual name stressing the well-known name, Kamoko is not his actual birth name.

Speaking to Giovani Caleb on 3FM Drive, Bukom Banku as he is better known disclosed that the name, Kamoko was his grandfather’s nickname which he passed on to him.

He explained that the meaning of Kamoko in the Malian language means ‘strength’.

He said his actual birth name is Braimah Issah but decided to adopt the nickname given to him by his grandfather to continue his legacy.

“Kamoko is not my name. It is my grandfather’s nickname. Baba Issah that was his nickname. It means strong in my native Mali language so he gave me that name and I decided to use it in my official documents but my real surname is Issah and my actual name is Braimah Issah,” he told Giovani Caleb on March 29.

Bukom Banku further revealed his lineage indicating that his paternal side is from Mali while his maternal side is from Ghana.

According to him, his grandfather moved to Ghana from Mali during Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s era and married a Ga lady and they both gave birth to his father, Amadu Kamoko.

“My grandmother is a Ga from Ga Mashie and that is why I am in Ga mashie but my family is at Nima Kawukudi and I do not know my hometown in Mali,” he added.
