Revamp of Kwame Nkrumah Museum caused dramatic increase in domestic and international visitors – Akufo-Addo

Kwame Memorial Park

President Akufo-Addo has said domestic and international visitors in Ghana saw a sudden and extreme increase due to the revamp of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.

Delivering his penultimate State of the Nation Address on February 27, the president said a total of 208,557 domestic and international visitors visited the park between July 14 and December 31 since its modernisation.

According to him, this is the second best with respect to international visitors in Ghana since the Year of Return in 2019.

“Since the commissioning, there have been two hundred and eight thousand, five hundred and fifty-seven (208,557) domestic and international visitors to the Park between 14th July and 31st December 2023.

“Mr Speaker, compare that, if you may, with the best performance until then, which was in the Year of Return in 2019, when there were one hundred and twenty-six thousand, one hundred and ninety (126,190) visitors in the year,” the President said.

President Akufo-Addo said his government is currently undertaking an upgrade of other tourist attraction sites and expressed excitement over the private sector’s interest in joining forces to develop tourist attraction sites.

He added that the National Museum Gallery has also been refurbished and attracted over thirty-five thousand visitors in 2023.

President Akufo-Addo further highlighted that the construction of a Heroes Park, a museum to commemorate the founding fathers of Ghana will soon commence as preparatory works and design have already been completed in December 2023.
