The Mfantseman Constituency branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) says the driver of the Member of Parliament, Ekow Kwansah Hayford, who was shot dead in an attack last Friday, is alive.
There were earlier reports that the driver, whose name was given as Issah, had also lost his life after being admitted at the hospital.
But the Constituency Communications Director of the NPP, Dr Nana Yaw Agyenim-Boateng, told Accra-based Citi FM that their checks have revealed that the driver was rather in coma.
“On Friday, a call came that the driver of the late MP has also passed on. So we called the doctor at that particular hospital who confirmed same but later in the day, news also broke that he (the driver) went into a coma, and he is back from the alleged coma.
“So I called the constituency Chairman who is also close to the late MP driver that this is what I have heard, and he confirmed that the man is alive.”
The car of the MP was attacked by suspected armed robbers on the Abeadze Dominase-Mankessim road while he was returning from a campaign trip.
The MP died from gunshot wounds.
The police have begun investigations into the incident, announcing a reward of GH¢20,000 for anyone with information on the attackers.
