School girls killed by cement-loaded articulated truck laid to rest

The five school girls of Assin Atobiase D/A Basic School who met their untimely death after an articulated truck ran over them were laid to rest on Wednesday, November 21.

The burial ceremony was held at the forecourt of the Assin South District Assembly in the Central Region.

The girls with some school mates had gone to watch their school team train for an upcoming game.

Unfortunately, an articulated truck fully loaded with cement bags developed a fault and the driver lost control.

The truck with registration number AS 8123-16 ran over them, killing five instantly.

Only two survived.

The truck was loaded with 850 bags of cement

Opinion leaders and dignitaries in the district were present to pay their last respects to the deceased, Onua FM’s reporter said.

Rites were also observed to expunge the names of the five from the school’s register.

The Church of Pentecost in the district is said to have borne the cost of the coffins of the dead while they doled out money for the medication of one of the hospitalized who is said to be in a critical condition.

Those laid to rest on Wednesday are Vivian Okyere,13, Emmanuella Nunoo, 13, and Abigail Appiah, 15.

The rest are Eva Okyere, 12, and Lydia Okyere, 12.
