The Chairperson and leader of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Samia Yaba Nkrumah, has initiated the biggest shake-up in the party’s 63-year history.
The CPP leader has tabled a 5-Point Plan for discussion with the Party’s Leadership. This will be followed by consultation with the membership of the Party beginning with the Central Committee of the Party followed by the National Executive Council.
The plan includes a total restructuring of the Party, re-branding of the Party, strengthening Party education, renewed activism, internal financial re-organization, Nkrumaist unity, and greater international re-connection.
The Party Chair believes that the CPP went into the 2012 elections knowing that these elections would serve as part of its renewal process.
“Many of our candidates who ran are in their twenties and thirties and they now form the new vanguard of the Party”, she said.
The CPP Chairperson above everything else believes that the youth should take centre stage in all affairs of the Party. The Party machinery for her own campaign in Jomoro was heavily youth-driven and this is the model that the CPP Chair wants to repeat nationwide.
She wishes to reassure the rank and file of the Party that the CPP will overcome.
