Professionals for Change donates food items, money to Accra Psychiatric Hospital

Members of Professionals for Change, a pro-New Patriotic Party group of professionals, have donated food items, detergents and an undisclosed amount to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital. The food items included bags of rice, gallons of cooking oil, fruits and vegetables. Members of the group also used the opportunity to clean the premises of the Hospital and interacted with some of the patients on admission. Presenting the items, Secretary of the group, Amma Frimpomaa, explained they chose the Psychiatric Hospital because it is one of the under-resourced healthcare facilities in the country. She added the gesture was also to thank the management and staff of the Hospital for the sacrifices they render to patients, and expressed the hope the gesture would contribute positively towards the rehabilitation of the patients. Mr Mr Emmanuel Febiri, a member of the Hospital’s Communication team thanked the group for the gesture and assured them the items would be used for the purpose for which they were given. He said the Hospital was financial constraint and that the neglect of patients by relatives, dilapidated wards and lack of risk allowance for staff were among some of the key challenges they face. Cordinator of the group, Kofi Ofosu emphasised the importance of assisting mental health facilities because of the neglect the sector has suffered over the years. He reiterated the NPP government’s commitment towards approving the mental act LI to provide the needed funds and resources towards building a robust and comprehensive mental healthcare delivery system.
