The family head and regent of Nandom, Deri Ziem Chemogoh, has condemned attempts by the Chairman of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Professor Edmund Nminyem Delle, to “usurp traditional authority” and hold himself as Nandom Naa.
Last month, a statement issued by the Head of the Nandom Royal Family, Alhaji Yussif Botug Benni Chiir VII, said the renowned dermatologist and politician had gone through traditional processes and enskinned Naa Professor Edmund Nminyem Delle Chiir VIII.
He was supposed to succeed the late Dr Charles Puoure Imoru Chiir VII.
But a statement dated Tuesday, May 28 said processes for the enskinment of a new Nandom Naa has just begun following the final funeral rites held for Naa (Dr.) Puoure Imoru Chiir VII on Tuesday, May 14.
“Therefore, the Chiir Royal Family finds it difficult to believe that Prof Delle would be making such presumptuous statements ahead of the final decision by the elders and kingmakers of the Chiir Royal Family.”
The statement said no decision has been taken regarding the selection and enskinment of the next paramount Chief of Nandom.
“Again, no member of the Royal Family has been enskinned as the Paramount Chief of the Nandom Traditional Area and therefore Prof Edmund Delle cannot hold himself as the Paramount Chief.”
It said the Royal Family will duly inform all and sundry about any decision to be made.
“We humbly urge members of the public, traditional council, National House of Chiefs and all stakeholders to ignore attempts by Prof Edmund Delle to usurp traditional authority and his quest to stir trouble and discord in the peaceful Nandom Traditional Area.”
