Three members of the New Patriotic Party have sued the party, its flag-bearer and 28 others including former president John Kufuor over the decision suspending the party’s chairman, Paul Afoko.

The three, Tweneboa Kodua Emmanuel, Stephen Owusu and Joseph Oppong filed a motion at the Accra High Court Friday morning in an attempt to stop the National Executive Committee [NEC] meeting that suspended Mr. Afoko.

The motion, filed at the Court Registry at exactly 10:45AM and scheduled to be heard on Friday, October 30, prayed the court to restrain the party and the 29 individuals, their agents, assigns among others from convening a meeting of the NEC.

They urged the court stop the respondents from attending such meeting to take disciplinary action against Mr. Afoko until a substantive case they have filed at the court is finally determined.

The respondents include Freddie Blay, John Agyekum Kufour, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, F.F Anto, Nana Obiri Yeboah, Abankwa Yeboa, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, John Boadu, C.K Tedem, Nana Akomea, Martin Adjei Mensah,Charles Owiredu and Otiko Djaba.

But it is unclear whether the respondents were served with the motion since the meeting went ahead at the party’s headquarters in Accra.

At the said meeting, Afoko was suspended indefinitely by a unanimous decision by the National Executive Committee. He has 14 days to appeal against the decision failure of which the decision will hold as per the party’s constitution.

The meeting was preceded by a scuffle between persons believed to be supporters of the embattled chairman, Mr. Afoko and the security guards of the party known as Invisible Forces. Two persons have so far been arrested.

There was heavy police presence at the party’s headquarters before and during the meeting following the clashes which left some people badly hurt and some property destroyed.

Meanwhile First Vice Chairman, Freddy Blay has been appointed acting National Chairman of the party.
