Police investigate attack on its men, stealing of two AK 47 rifles

File photo of AK 47 rifles[/caption] The Police in Tamale have commenced investigations into how two of their men were attacked at Kakpayili on Monday and their AK 47 assault rifle stolen by some unknown assailants. The two policemen were on duty at the Kakpayili community in the Tamale metropolis when some gunmen arrived in a saloon car, opened fire on them and managed to seize their weapons. According to the Police, they suspect the assailants to be armed robbers. “The armed men who arrived at the scene at about 1:00am in a black Toyota saloon vehicle, immediately opened fire on the policemen on duty”, Northern Regional Police PRO DSP Yussif Tanko told TV3. He said the regional police command has since initiated investigations into the case to establish “exactly what happened and to identify the perpetrators to get them arrested. DSP Tanko said the affected policemen were not hurt but “two of their AK 47 riffles were taken by the alleged robbers”. He called on the general public to assist the police with any information that can lead to the arrest of the alleged criminals.
