Police deploy anti-terrorism force to Bunkpurugu

The Ghana Police Service has deployed personnel from its elite unit to the Northern Region town of Bunkpurugu to restore calm.

Fresh clashes in Bunkpurugu over the weekend left in its wake one life lost and another seriously injured.

A statement released by the Service and signed by its Director for Public Affairs, Cephas Arthur, on Monday, November 30 said the contingent from its elite unit has been drawn from the Counter-Terrorism Unit and the Formed Police Unit.

“Whilst assuring the general public of bringing the situation under control, the Police wishes to caution those who are perpetrating the crime to desist, to avoid being arrested and prosecuted for flouting the laws of the land.”

The clashes which protracted to Monday morning saw the burning down of a house near the town’s police station.

Meanwhile, a joint military and police team is said to be on the ground restoring calm, a goal the elite unit has also been tasked with.
