Police commander dead in suspected suicide

The Half Assisi District Police Commander, Superintendent Cyprian Zenge is reported to have been shot dead in what police suspect to be suicide.

A statement by the Western Regional Police Command announced the demise of the command Saturday January 30.

“The Western Regional Police Command regrettably reports of the demise of Half Assisi District Commander, Superintendent Mr Cyprian Zeno, who was found dead with gunshot wound at his residence at about 07:00 am on 30th January, 2021”, the statement reads in parts.

According to the police who visited the scene, the late commander was “found sitting in a blue chair with gunshot wound on his forehead, with his pistol beside him on the floor and one spent ammunition under the chair”.

The police say “what appears to be a note written by the Officer was also found at the scene”, a situation they say points to suicide but investigations are still ongoing.

“Although preliminary investigation points to suicide, the investigation is opened to unravel the true circumstances leading to the death of the Officer”, the statement said.

Meanwhile, the Assembly man for Half Assini, Man Peter Miezah, has disclosed the note found at the deceased’s residence had the inscription, “I’m fed up”. The body has since been conveyed from the residence.
