Police arrest 4 alleged highway robbers, declare 'Black Taller' wanted

Four alleged highway robbers who allegedly robbed passengers on board a commercial mini bus on the Winneba-Kasoa road Tuesday evening have been arrested by the Police in the Central Region. The four, whose names were given as Michael Quaye, Kofi Arthur Stephen, Alex Odoom and Daniel Otchere are being questioned by the Central Regional Police Command. A fourth suspect, Kweku Ameteb alias ‘Black Taller’, who managed to escape has been declared wanted by the Police. Police say they are being investigated for robbery contrary to section 149 of the criminal and other offences Act 29. The five suspects were said to have “attacked” and robbed passengers onboard a Mercedez Benz Sprinter bus registered GR 6914-13 on July 3 at about 6:30pm. According to the Police, it received a distress call from Gomoa-Potsin that the mini bus being driven by 42-year-old Isaac Afum with Philip Owusu as mate had been robbed by some youngmen. Three of the suspects were said to be driving a Toyota Corolla with registration GW 3889-18 and two others on a motorbike registered GW 2485-M17. The Police said information they received was that “an unspecified amount of money had been taken away from the mate at a spot along Dominase-Potsin motor road and that they were speeding towards Dominase”. The Police said they moved in quickly to the scene and intercepted both the private vehicle and the motor bike and arrested all the occupants on board but “Black Taller” who was in charge the motorbike on seeing the Police, abandoned it and escaped into the nearby bush. Efforts are being made to arrest Black Taller, the Police said, noting they have impounded the car and the motorbike used for the operation while they investigate the case. The Police have meanwhile urged the public to provide information leading to the arrest of Black Taller.
