Surroundings of the Gbewaa Palace have been tidied up ahead of the coronation of the new Ya-Naa, Abukari Mahama II.
The event is expected to be graced by chiefs from across the country, led by President of the National House of Chiefs Togbe Afede XIV, as well as government functionaries led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The president has since made his way to the Northern Region for the ceremony.
The new Overlord of Dagbon was selected after funerals of the former overlords were held in December, for the Abudus, and January, for the Andanis.
The funerals have followed 16 years of arbitration by the Committee of Eminent Chiefs led by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The new overlord was chief of Savelegu until his eskinment.
Popularly known as Naa Bukari, the new Ya-Naa was born in 1939 at Yendi as the second child of Queen Duhili Ayishetu, daughter of Kulunkpe-Naa Abukari.
He is a grandson of Ya-Naa Andani II. He is a paternal uncle to late Ya-Naa Yakubu. This made him the Daŋ-kpema (family head) of the Andani Royal Family.

Security has been beefed up in the municipality ahead of the traditional event.
Chairman of the coronation committee Anas Abdulai told TV3 on the eve of the event that the new Ya-Naa was chosen by the oracles exactly a week ago.
“He has gone through the rituals.”
