Pat Thomas reveals reason behind ‘Africa’s Golden Voice’

November 27, 2019

Highlife maestro Pat Thomas has recounted how an ecstatic crowd rushed on him on-stage while performing at the erstwhile Arts Centre in Accra to carry him shoulder high, pouring powder on him and calling him the Golden Voice of Africa.

Known in real life as Kwabena Nyamekye, the celebrated highlife singer disclosed to host of 3FM’s weekly Gh Classics, Paa Kofi Nyarko, that it was a gesture by lovers of his art to canonize him as the best in Africa.

This, he said, happened when he was the lead singer and leader of the Sweet Beans Band of the Cocoa Marketing Board (CMB) and since then, everyone, including the press started calling him the Golden Voice of Africa.

Pat, as he is affectionately called, revealed the secret to his sweet voice is the intake of fruits, reiterating that bananas contribute to his sweet voice as that forms part of his daily workouts.
