Ashaiman on Saturday celebrated winning the second edition of the Onua Sports Community Gala after beating Labadi in the final at the Fadama Fadama Astroturf Park in Accra.
After a goalless draw in regulation time, Ashaiman won 4-3 on penalties to emerge champions and dethrone Madina.
Ashaiman played three matches in the competition. They eliminated Dansoman, beat host Fadama in the last four before overcoming Labadi in the final match. Interestingly, they achieved all their wins through penalty shootouts.
Ashaiman also dominated the individual awards. Their striker Shadrack Korli Nartey won two awards – Most Valuable Player and Golden Boot, and Enock Obiri Mintah picked up the Best Goalkeeper award.
Ashaiman received 2,000 Ghana cedis while runners up Labadi pocked 1,500 cedis. In addition, both teams got certificates and products from sponsors.
The two-day event was successful. All eight participating teams and match officials were well taken care of by organisers.
Attendance was great. Former Black Stars defender Isaac Vorsah was present on Friday when the gala commenced.
