One officer injured as irate youth vandalise Cape Coast Police Station

Some irate youth Sunday afternoon went on rampage in the Central Region capital of Cape Coast, vandalizing property at the Metropolitan Police Station.

These men said to members of a marijuana-smoking gang accused the police of beating one of their members to death.

One Kwasi Sabado was reported dead at the Cape Coast Hospital after being part of a group rounded up by the police in a swoop a couple of days ago.

The angry youth carrying weapons including cutlasses and stones visited violence on every property on the premises of the police station.

Water cannons were fired to disperse them.

One officer, our reporter says, was injured in the ensuing exchanges.

Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South Constituency Kweku Rickets-Hagan has since visited the police station to inspect the extent of damage.

The Deputy Trades and Industry Minister said insurance companies would be called upon to repair affected vehicles which have policies with them.

He stated, however, that vehicles without insurance will be made to bear their own costs.
